Genea

Genea

Practice Manager

When you run a vet practice, it’s important to treat clients well because one day, they just may join your staff. Just ask Genea. She was a longtime client of Dixie Road Pet Clinic and absolutely loved the way the staff treated her and her fur babies. In fact, she loved the atmosphere and the workplace so much that she eventually decided to join the staff as a veterinary assistant!

Ever since Genea was younger, she has had a desire to join the veterinary field in some capacity. She spent years focusing on her family and raising her son, so when he finally became an adult, she suddenly found herself with a lot of free time. This allowed her to pursue her dream of working with animals. Today she works for what she calls “the greatest vet clinic around.”

Genea used to have a dog named Rocky, along with two pet bunnies. Rocky suffered from extreme anxiety and wouldn’t interact with any other animals, but he took a liking to the bunnies. Genea would watch as the dog lovingly licked the bunnies’ ears, and in return they would play with the dog’s nails. Interactions like this are what pushed her to want to be around animals.

Genea grew up in Mississauga with her siblings and Greek-born parents. She loved the beauty of nature and spent a lot of time enjoying the great outdoors, and also had a passion for sports.

Today, she spends her free time hanging out with her son (who she calls her best friend) and her three dogs. Genea is also a Reiki Master, so she spends a lot of time studying and practicing energy healing and other forms of holistic health.

Alexandria

Alexandria

Veterinary Assistant

Alex has known she wanted to work in the veterinary field since she was just four years old. Aside from the typical princess/ballerina stuff, she’s never wanted to do anything else. As she got older, her deep love of animals was complemented by a growing fascination with medicine. Choosing the veterinary field gave Alex the perfect opportunity to combine her two passions into one fulfilling career!

Alex’s journey into the veterinary profession was not an easy one. She tried for many years to get a volunteer position at various clinics, shelters, and even pet stores. With no luck, she enrolled in the veterinary technician program at Northern College. After struggling a bit, Alex decided to change gears and pursue her certification as a veterinary assistant. Over the years, she’s worked at several clinics looking for the perfect fit. She found just what she was looking for here at Dixie Road!

Alex’s absolute favorite part of the job is cleaning ears. Being able to remove all the buildup and watch the instant relief it brings to the patient is extremely rewarding. She also enjoys bringing comfort to patients and their owners and has a particular knack for earning the trust of anxious pets. And lastly, Alex appreciates the opportunity she’s been given to continually learn on a daily basis – something she takes full advantage of.

Outside of the clinic, Alex resides with her boyfriend, her daughter, and her own personal zoo. Blue, a husky/lab/rottweiler mix, is an 80-pound baby who loves a good belly rub or to snuggle in bed. Sasha is a spoiled, sassy kitty whose favorite things are being pampered and lounging gracefully atop a pile of clean laundry. Bandit is a trouble-maker, who can usually be found picking on his younger brother, napping or hunting for treats. There isn’t a cupboard he can’t break into or treat bag he can’t chew through.

Next, there’s Noxx, a cat who Alex adopted on the sly. Noxx may have lost one of his eyes due to an early infection, but that doesn’t stop him from out-wrestling his brother. Binx and Teenu are Alex’s pet rats, both of whom love to snuggle and eat any snack you are willing, or unwilling, to share. Last, but not least, there’s Dino, a bearded dragon who enjoys spending his time basking on his rock, eating worms, and pooping on Alex.

Between work, taking care of her daughter, and all the animals she has in her home, Alex has little time for much else, and she’s perfectly content with that!

Amanda

Amanda

Customer Service Representative

Sometimes in life, you just have to try something new. Amanda had always loved animals, but had never had the chance to work with them. So when she stumbled across a job opening at Dixie Road Pet Clinic, she applied for it. Now she’s a customer service representative at the clinic, and gets to work with the animals she loves on a daily basis!

Amanda’s favorite part of being at Dixie Road Pet Clinic is watching all of the puppies and kittens meeting their new families for the first time. She knows that she’s witnessing something special watching them start on a new journey together.

Amanda grew up in Bompton with her parents and an older brother. She attended Humber and Loyalist College, where she earned a diploma in advertising, marketing and public relations. In her free time she enjoys playing with her young, energetic dog, Kai. You can also find her doing makeup and watching Korean and Chinese dramas.
