Litterbox Odor Control

Cats are very clean, which is one reason we love having them as pets. Fluffy is very clean: she’ll groom herself daily, and will use her litterbox to see to her needs. No walks required! Keep It Clean

First and foremost, be sure to keep your feline buddy’s litterbox clean. We recommend scooping daily and changing the litter out every week. This of course isn’t anyone’s favorite task. You may want to look into automated litterboxes, or siftable staking ones. These can be particularly beneficial for those with multiple furballs. Ask your vet for recommendations.

Avoid Overcrowding

Speaking of multiple furballs, if you have more than one kitty, you’ll need more than one litterbox. It’s generally best to have at least one box per furball, plus an extra. You’ll need to be extra diligent about cleaning, though. When cats’ waste mingles, their different chemistries often lead to smells that are far worse combined than they are separately.

Air Purifiers

Air purifiers can also go a long way here. You can find little ones that work quite well for small areas. Be sure to change the filter regularly. Ventilation is also something to consider. If and when possible, open (or at least crack) a window near Fluffy’s powder room.

Deodorizers

There are now many different products made just for helping control and contain litterbox odors. However, don’t be tricked into overpaying. Simple baking soda can also do the trick.

Plants

Plants are very effective at purifying the air. Just be sure to choose only ones that are safe for our feline pals. You can find a list at the ASPCA website here. Spider plants and Boston ferns are a few good options.

Sprays/Fresheners

These products are often the go-to for beating stinky smells. However, there are some things to keep in mind. Look for ones that break down scent molecules. Cheaper products merely mask the smells, and can actually add to the mix of odors. You may want to pick up a few products that are made for beating bathroom odors.
