DIY Cat Furniture

September 15, 2019

Cats are quite versatile, especially when it comes to napping. Fluffy can sleep on just about anything! However, while your pet won’t hesitate to ‘borrow’ your sofa, bed, chair, or lap to snooze on, she’ll enjoy having things made just for her. You don’t have to break the bank buying kitty furniture, however. A local Brampton, ON vet lists some great DIY options below.

Beds

There are quite a few options for making your pet’s beds. One option is to repurpose a comfy sweater or sweatshirt. Attach the sleeves to the torso, and then fold it into an oval shape. Next, add some pet-safe stuffing. Then, sew the neck shut. You can also just put soft folded blankets or pillows into a box or wicker basket.

Cat Tower

Cat towers are great for our feline pals. An easy way to make one is to repurpose an old stepladder. Get some smooth boards, and attach those to the steps, so Fluffy has some comfy spots to look adorable on. Then use carpet or sisal rope to cover the whole thing. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can build one from scratch, using PVC pipe or even real branches. Of course, there are also lots of ways to make kitty trees from boxes and lumber. There’s almost no end to the ways you can configure them!

Kitty Shelf

Our feline friends love looking out windows and spying on local wildlife. Use a smooth board to widen out your windowsill. For extra purrs, attach a kitty bed using Velcro or double-sided tape.

Cat Tent

Cats are very curious by nature, and love investigating nooks and crannies. You can make a kitty tent out of an old tee shirt and a wire hangar in just a few minutes. The neck hole will become Fluffy’s ‘door,’ while the torso of the shirt will form the walls, floor, and ceiling. Look online for step-by-step instructions.

Kitty Palace

Our feline overlords love being pampered. Why not make your furry little diva her own castle? Fluffy would probably be happy with a real stone castle, especially one with a fish-stocked moat. However, your little buddy will be purrfectly content with a cardboard box palace. This is a great rainy day project for kids!
